Book Review: She Had Enough by Stacie Grey
Shout out to #NetGalley and #PoisonedPenPress for the opportunity to review this book!
This story takes off on the very first page of the novel. Immediately we are introduced to six young woman that are friends and acquaintances living in San Francisco. The setting of them each dolled up and sitting at a high class restaurant felt almost like a moment from the show Sex and The City. They share text chains and meet up at upscale restaurants for a catch-up meals and drinks. This seems to be the norm with these ladies, most who met back in college days. The feeling of innocence of the group quickly leaves though when one of the woman Caitlin is in the bathroom distressed. As another lady Mallory walks in, she is handed off a tube of lipstick and the story takes off from there!
The main character Mallory begins assessing all the clues
and it seems to do nothing more than create more questions and possibilities, a
hallmark of a good mystery. This one is that, and very fast paced. There are other
factors that come into play in the storyline also, such as a major earthquake. Early on, it is
unclear on how much the natural phenomena played into a death or a possible
looting situation. Stayed tune to find out! There are enough distractions to
make it interesting and yet not so many that the story gets bogged down with extraneous
details.
This story pulls you in quickly and has you feeling as if our main
character is racing against time to solve what happened to the woman Caitlin.
The closer she gets to answers, the more in danger she appears to be making it hard to put the book down.
I loved the fast pace and a lot of the action scenes. It definitely made it feel more realistic. Each chapter it feels as if the mystery is going to be solved but then another kink pops up in the story. The author is great at staying on target though. My only disappointment was that the story wrapped up too quickly for all of the buildup. I would have liked to see the pieces come together in the end a bit slower.
